Description
Miles of rope and thousands of rope bunnies have taught us a few things about what makes a great batch of jute rope:
- If the rope is good right off the spool, you have a great batch.
- If the rope throws across the floor nicely without tangling,
- If it smells like crunchy autumn leaves,
- If the lay is tight and the fuzzies are few… you have a great batch of rope.
Great jute rope for shibari is an elusive prey, and our rolodex of suppliers is constantly evolving to keep up with a shifting supply chain. We are happy to now offer this wonderfully constructed, 6mm, body safe shibari bondage rope at the best prices available on the market. But more on our pricing later.
What does it feel like to be tied with jute rope?
Blissful. Or terrifying. And anywhere in between, depending on the intent of the person doing the tying. That is the beauty of jute. It is light and nimble, yet firm enough to dig in when needed. Jute has good tooth and it holds simple knots well. This makes for an inspiring, easy medium for a rope artist. And - an efficient, firm tool for the sadist. It all depends on the intent.
Can I really use it right off the spool?
Absolutely. The yarns that make up the rope are polished and coated with an odorless, water soluble polymer that is carcinogen free and transparent to the senses. Pressing a hank of this jute to your face and inhaling is like laying down in a pile of lush autumn leaves. Divine.
Throw and Tangles
If you are a rigger, you will appreciate that this rope throws straight across the floor pretty much straight off the spool. There is no annoying untangling process to “train” your hanks to throw well. The lay and twist is seated really well because the yarns are so well polished to begin with.
How do we sell this rope so cheap?
Because we invest in the process. We know that great bondage rope is made from great polished yarn, and that is the secret sauce. Great yarns means great, usable rope - right off the spool. And that means we don’t have to condition this rope for you - which saves everyone time and money.
Rope conditioning is a personal preference and there are many ways to approach this. We spent allot of time to get our Jojoba Rope Treatment Oil the way we want it. This is a great product for experimenting with different rope finishes because it is very lightweight and does not weigh down your ropes if used conservatively. You can vary the feel of the rope with additional coatings.
Should I wash my rope?
Probably not. Unless you cum on it. Or drool on it, or bleed on it. In which case, it is good to have a system for messy encounters. One approach is to separate soiled ropes, then launder and store them separate from the rest of the kit. These freshly laundered lengths are then at hand for the next wet situation. Wash and repeat. This system preserves the rest of your kit from the undue wear that washing puts on your ropes.
Pro tips
- If you do wash your rope, hang the lengths under tension to dry. This will help minimize the “puffiness” that results from washing natural fiber ropes.
- Remember that sunlight is the best disinfectant.
- Follow up with rubbing a little oil/wax into the dry ropes to tame the fuzzies and restore life to the rope.
